The Science Storyteller & Educational Polymath

Ian B Dunne - Often known as "The Professor"

Ian B Dunne Welcome to my web site.
Feel free to browse and see what you can find.

My latest, favourite comment came from the OFSTED inspector at a Primary School I was working at this spring...
Ian gives me a sense of awe and wonder, let alone the kids...

Here is information about all the different things I do, well almost.
For primary schools I often do my for School Science Days, a show or two and then into classes. It goes down well for Science weeks or any time.
For secondary schools, the best thing is a few Science Shows
and maybe one for the public in the evening.
Lately I have been doing special sessions with GandT or STEM clubs at the end of the day ... contact me if you are interested.
There is info here about my shows, see which you like the look of. There are short summaries of some of my popular shows but I am more than happy to combine bits of each to make a new one.

INSET training is always good for a laugh and here you really can mix and match to fit your needs.

And Story telling, oh the joys of waffling on, mostly I do science stories but I still love the traditional, or as you might call it making it up and lying.

I am now including the most interesting question I have been asked each day on my Twitter page - but not the answers .....
Please also have a look at the the videos of my toys and my shows that I have uploaded to Youtube.

I am very lucky that my audiences seem to enjoy my work almost as much as I do.
But that does mean I am often booked up well in advance.
Please look at Calendar of bookings already taken to see if I'm available.
I am based in Southampton so have to take into account the logistics of getting around the country.
Being freelance, I have to charge for my time. I charge by the day, but once I'm at your venue, the bigger the audience the better.

On the Pictures page you can see some of my toys and specimens.

Why I Do What I Do

Ian B DunneScience is very important.
Without understanding our world we cannot hope to make it a better place.
I know that it is very easy to put people off Science, we have a very small opportunity to get people hooked and a very big chance of turning them off completely.
So I do what I can, to bring enthusiasm, excitement and most of all fun into physics, cheers into chemistry and a buzz to biology.

I am very serious about what I do, but not about how I do it.
Michael Faraday was not only a great Scientist but also a great lecturer and Science Showman.
He wrote "The most prominent requisite of a lecturer is a good delivery."
"The lecturer should give the audience full reason to believe that all his powers have been exerted for their pleasure and instruction"
and finally
"One hour is long enough for anyone"
I try my very hardest to do as the great man says

I am a chemist (originally) a lapsed pyrotechnician and a qualified teacher.

CRB checked and I have £5 Million public liability insurance.

PLEASE NOTE
In the current political and economic climate, I know the schools and other science providers feel pressured to provide value for money. My fees may not be the very cheapest, but the positive impact on Science and Technology learning outcomes is best judged by my past and future bookings.
I look forward to visiting your site.
